Slackers are the canary in the coal mine
I love coming across articles and blog posts where people are complaining about slackers at their workplace. I always wonder why people are so damn concerned with what other people are doing? I mean, if the complainer knows everything the slacker is doing then the complainer is also CLEARLY not working either.
Even though it’s from 2004, I came across an article on slackers hurting morale and what could this complainer do about it. I’d love to have been the journalist getting that letter. My answer would have been “Shut the fuck up and get over it, Joan.”
See, Joan was complaining because a co-worker left work early on a Friday by faking an illness when Joan knew that the co-worker was going out of town and just wanted a head start on vacation. Joan is also frowny-faced because the same co-worker regularly leaves early, shows up late and calls out of work. Joan goes on to say that she “detests slackers” and this has resulted in a lack of morale.
I think Joan is just jealous that she doesn’t have anything more exciting that coming to work in her life. Think about it – the co-worker seems to have a lot going on outside of work. What does Joan have? Probably about 20 cats and that’s it. The bottom line is that Joan doesn’t have any fun and wants everyone else to suffer like she does and it makes her all frowny-faced when that is not the case. Insert sad trombone for Joan. Boo-fuckin-hoo. Joan is exactly the threat that I was referring to in the biggest threat to slackers post. You people seriously have to watch out for the Joan in your office.
Also, the slacker in this story was clearly a NOOB – I mean, this person actually told people about the going out of town in advance so when the illness card was played it was majorly obvious what was going down.
