Slacker tip #194 – Use an alternative exit
Sneaking out of work early is the best. You get a head start on that horrible rush hour traffic. And best of all – you are getting paid for working when you are already on your way home!
The easiest way to sneak out of work early without getting caught is to use an alternative exit. Most offices have stairwells that have outside exits. When choosing a stairwell you want to pick on that is not used and is kind of off the beaten path. You don’t want any witnesses to see you leaving. You also want to make sure that your exit path does not take you past any management or nosy co-workers.
You also need to have plan in case you get caught trying to sneak out. What I like to do is carry my cell phone in my hand like I am getting ready to make a call. And as I get closer to the stairwell I start dialing a number like I am just going to the stairwell to make a personal call. This way if someone sees you, or if they mention it to you the next day, you can say that you had to step out to make a personal call.
If possible, try to change up your exit location. You don’t want people to start to notice a pattern or they will catch on to what you are doing.
