Slacker tip #177 – Making an appearance can really save your ass
Last week I had an office Christmas party. I did not want to go. You see, it was an off-site party. Everyone was supposed to leave the office at 11:30am for the party, which started at noon. It was supposed to last until 3pm when they were going to tell us we could go home.
Since I knew we would get sent home early, I thought about just going home at 11:30. I figured no one would even notice.
At 10:45 my boss came to my desk to remind me to pick up my parking pass for the party. I went to get the pass and noticed there was a checklist for people picking up passes. Good thing I got the pass, I thought to myself, then they will think that I went to the party.
Sitting at my desk I got to thinking that maybe I should at least make an appearance at the party. And hey, maybe they would be giving away stuff and if that was the case then I would stay. Otherwise I would sneak out early.
So I went.
Imagine my surprise to see them checking off each person as they entered! If I had not shown up I totally would have been busted! Instead, I showed up and made the appearance. Then after about an hour I snuck out the back and no one even noticed!
