Slacker tip #176 - Sneak out the back

Do you hate having to go to office parties and the like? I do because if I have to be at work then I would rather be at my desk playing on the internet. Earlier this week was my office Christmas party. The party was offsite at a 2-story entertainment complex. Everyone was supposed to leave the office at 11:30am and it was supposed to last from noon till 3pm.

When I arrived at the location there was a table set up at the front entrance where they were checking people in. I got checked in and had a bite to eat while I planned my escape. At first I though I would be able to exit through the front. After a hour I saw that would not be feasible. The people were still at the table and WORSE - my boss was sitting at a table on the patio, which I would have had to have walked pass to get to the garage.

I went to the upper level of the place to scout it out and think. There was a way out to the right of the main entrance but the parking garage was to the left so that would not work. I walked around to check the perimeters. There was a side back entrance on the left of the second level. But - it was roped off. I suspected that was just because my company had rented out the entire place. After checking with an employee I learned that was the case and that the doors were unlocked! After waiting for people to get out of view, I snuck around the corner and out those doors right into the parking garage. End result? I only had to endure an hour of a boring three hour party and got home extra early. Oh yeah, and I got paid for being there the whole time.
