Can you get away with lying about your credentials and qualifications for a job?
As a slacker myself, a lot of the things that are on my resume represent a great work of fiction. Mostly this is because I am a serial job hopper, thanks to my slacker ways. And the only way for me to keep scoring jobs where I can get paid to do nothing for a few months is to lie about a few key details o my resume.
Lying about your credentials and qualifications to get a job is supposedly a no-no. A lot of employers have a little clause on their application that says if you are discovered to be falsifying info then you can be fired immediately. Of course, that is IF they find out!
I have been a professional slacker for over 15 years now. I have never been fired for being outed as a liar on my resume. Sure, it is easy for companies to verify things like a college diploma. And if you put that you worked for Microsoft then they can look that up too.
I stick to only lying about jobs and job titles. How do I get away with it? I don’t try to name-drop any big name companies on my resume. And I can back up my skills listed on my resume. So, if you put that you are a PeopleSoft pro on your resume, then you best be prepared to back that shit up or you WILL get fired for lying.
For a list of other things you *technically* shouldn’t do but can probably get away with if you are good, have a read of Avoid These 7 Work Taboos. It’s kind of a douche article, but might be good for a laugh for all of the other professional slackers out there.
