Once you have taken step one, you should have returned to work and been met with one of two things. Either snarky email from the boss, or the boss waiting to have a little chat with you. They will likely tell you not to pull that little stunt again. Feel free to respond as you see fit.
If you did step one at the beginning of a week, then do step 2 later that same week. Otherwise, do step 2 the following week.
Step 2 is pretty simple. All you need to do is call in one day. Sure, nothing revolutionary, but considering that it happens close after step 1, well, it will not be a good thing in the eyes of the boss.
