If I were trying to get unemployment benefits…

As previously mentioned, I have given another slacker a fool-proof plan to get fired to get unemployment benefits.

Note that this only works for temps. If you are a permanent employee someplace and you get yourself fired, then you can’t get unemployment benefits.

Reminder: As a temp, if you are on assignment you need to get the place you are on assignment at to fire you through the temp agency. Then what happens is that the temp agency removes you from that assignment and do not send you out on any other interviews. The result? You get to file for unemployment benefits due to “lack of work” as technically you are still signed up with the agency, they just aren’t sending anything your way.

I think I could get fired in about a month. I will detail these steps, but keep in mind that your boss might act sooner and you might not have to do all of these steps!

Here is what I would do first…

I would wait until the boss goes to lunch. Then I would email him/her that I was not feeling well and went home for the day. Then leave. You will find that people in positions of authority really do not take it well when you do not give them a chance to exert that authority. And you will hear about it when you get back.

Stay tuned for step two!
