Slacker tip #158 - what to do about nosy co-workers

Posted by: the complete slacker on Friday, April 11th, 2008

A fellow slacker told me about a problem at work with a nosy co-worker. You see, this slacker is on the slippery slope of getting fired for being a slacker.

Just this week the slacker in question got assigned to a new desk after getting in trouble for too much socializing. Now the slacker sits by someone that spends more time looking at what the slacker is doing than working her self.

This is a classic problem of the nosy co-worker that spends more time worrying about what you are doing than actually working them self.

So, today, apparently the nosy co-worker cannot keep her eyes off of what the slacker is doing. She (the nosy co-worker) keeps turning around to look at the slacker.

My advice - each time you know she is turning around looking at you just turn and look back at her until she looks away.

Of course, this advice is not foolproof. There are two things that could come of this.

One, the nosy one will feel self-conscious/like an idiot/like she is found out and stop turning around.

OR…

Two, she will think that since you are noticing her looking at you that you must really be up to something no good. And this will just make her more vigilant to catch you doing something you should not be doing.

I think the real question here is - why do these nosy co-workers think it is their place to be the productivity police, and where do these losers come from?
