Slacker tip #140 - read the job ads each week
As a slacker you probably already know that once an employer figures out that they are paying you to do nothing that you will be on your way out before you know it. But there is a way to stay a step ahead of the game here.
You see, sometimes when an employer discovers that they are paying you to do nothing they will wait to fire you until they find your replacement. If this is the case you can be in the know just by regularly checking the job ads in the paper on Sunday and by looking on Monster and CareerBuilder. And if your job has a company website with job listings do not forget to check it too.
Of course, there are also those employers that get angry when they realize that they have been paying you for six months to do nothing. If you are unfortunate enough to have one of those jobs you will get let go that very day that they discover it. That was my last job. I left work for the day and had barely gotten home when I got the call. They had also taken it upon themselves to fax over internet usage logs to my staffing agency. Wankers. Of course, like any good slacker, I talked my way out of that one.
