Slacker tip #99 - say you’re doing homework
Have you ever noticed that people that do their homework at work never seem to get in as much trouble as those of us that just play on the internet at work?
It’s true. I know this because I have been on both sides of that fence.
When I was a student and would use any downtime at a job to work on homework no one seemed to care. Sure, a boss would ask what I was doing. I would tell them it was homework. Then they would ask questions like:
- what class is it?
- what classes are you taking?
- what is your major?
- when will you have your degree?
- how many classes are you taking this semester?
- what school are you going to?
- how do you like it?
And so on, and so on. Never once while I was taking classes and doing homework at work did I get in trouble for being on the internet for school work or having a textbook open at my desk.
When I completed school I started getting in trouble to excessive internet usage. The other people that I worked with that had excessive internet usage did not get in trouble. I did some snooping and found out that they were in school.
So, no one says you really have to be in school to use this excuse. But if you do try to get away with internet usage by playing the student card remember to be prepared for the questions above.
