Slacker tip #54 - oops, no meeting rooms available

It’s easy to sit at your desk and do nothing all day long and get paid for it. But sometimes we get interrupted in our pursuit to get paid to watch YouTube videos or read fan fiction all day long.

The culprit? Meetings.

I hate meetings. If you’re lucky and it is a large meeting then you can get away with doodling, making a grocery list or listening to your iPod. Must most of the time the meetings are small little department meetings. In a small little room. And you can’t get away with anything. Not only do you have to be on your best behaviour but you have to pay attention or else you’ll get called out! And no sense in trying to sit in the back, cause you’ll get called out for that too. It happened to me just last week.

I have found a solution for the dreaded meeting. Can’t have meetings if there are not meeting rooms available. If you work in an office like mine there are a handful of meeting rooms and people book them using Outlook. And only one person can book a room at a time, so if it’s already taken then there is no place for the meeting. And at my office the receptionist makes a lot of meeting reservations, but I can do it too. Of course, I don’t want my name on it since my boss will call me on it. But I can give the receptionist a bunch of bogus meetings to book.

Unfortunately this plan is not fool proof as sometimes people are determined to have a meeting. I’ve had meetings in the break room and meetings in people’s cubicles and empty offices. But if you have a bit of a lazy boss, booking all the meeting rooms just might work for you.
