Temp jobs and getting unemployment, tip #1

Posted by: the complete slacker on Thursday, July 26th, 2007

While this slacker loves coming to work and getting paid to play on the internet and talk on the phone all day, there comes a time when the love affair ends. Now is that time. I’d much rather sleep in and collect unemployment for a few months. So, I have started trying to get fired so that I can collect unemployment. As previously mentioned, it’s quite easy to qualify for unemployment through a temp agency as they never really fire you, just tell you that a project has ended. Most times they won’t send you to another job, but sometimes they do send you to an interview but that is easy enough to sabatoge.

The first thing I have been doing is creating my own schedule without approval. I’ve been coming in early and leaving late to rack up expensive overtime pay. I’ve been coming in late and leaving early as well. I’m taking 2 hour lunches when I know that people will notice and only putting a half hour on my timesheet. The crazy thing is that these idiots apprived said timesheet. But apparently when I came it at 8:30 amĀ and left at 3:30 pm after taking a 2 hour lunch Tuesday they noticed. And they are not happy. Score! Here’s an email I got from my boss:

Subject: Timesheets

Due to recent changes in schedules I am asking that everyone confirm their daily start time, length of lunch and end time. Please remember that an 8 hour day is required and that management would prefer that you take at least a 1/2 hour lunch. These schedules will be monitored and any schedule changes need to be approved in advance by me; for example coming in early, leaving early, staying late, etc.

Also, while there is overtime available, it is to be approved at least 24 hours in advance.

I will be stopping by to confirm your times and answer any questions you may have sometime Wednesday.

Ah, worked like a charm. I hope to be unemployed in the next 2 weeks.

I called in yesterday, so I have not yet had a chance for the “I will be stopping by to confirm your times and answer any questions” bit. I enjoy how she sent it out to the entire department when I am the only one making my own schedule. Muah haha.

Go ahead, give it a try if you are a temp and want to get unemployment. I mean, c’mon we’re not gonna get any social security benefits by the time we are retired so we might as well take a little now, right?

Keep slacking!
