Slacker tip #49 - size does matter
So, there you are, sitting at work. You’re supposed to be doing something productive, like data entry. Instead, you’re on the internet. You have internet explorer open in a tiny little window, and you think that’s clever.
You are so wrong.
Let’s think about it for a minute…
Okay, when you are doing data entry, you’re not doing it in a tiny little screen. Even if you’re not doing data entry, the chances are pretty slim that whatever you SHOULD be doing is something that is done in a tiny window. So, by having this out of place tiny little window up, you are actually drawing more attention to the fact that you are slacking.
But wait, you say, if I have a full size screen of my guilty pleasure site then people will notice it for sure when they walk by!
My advice to you? Don’t be an idiot. Stick to sites that don’t have loads of pics, etc. on them. Or at least sites that have smaller images. It doesn’t take a genius to know that any amount of out of place color and/or images is going to tip people off that you are online.
They key here is blending. You want that internet explorer window to blend in with the rest of the windows you have to have open on a normal day.
And remember, if you work in a company with an IT department, then people will know you’re on the internet. Having a tiny window doesn’t make them any less likely to notice.

Actually, why not try Ghostzilla?
It’s a free web browser that BLENDS right in with MS OUTLOOK!
It’s awesome. It makes the formatting look like an e-mail, and removes all images until you mouseover them. You move the cursor left/right 3 times to activate the browser, then click back on Outlook (or another bar) to make it hide instantly. Awesome shit.

wow, I’m going to have to try that one out! thanks for the tip.
I think it would be best if you could run it from a jump drive as a lot of companies check out what employees download. And those sneaky IT bastards are probably in the know about this ghostzilla

Well, Ghostzilla only affects the screen. It’s not a proxy server browser. The IT folks couldn’t care less– they can still see the sites you’re visiting.
If you really wanted to avoid confrontation, you’d run an SSL to your home computer, passing through a proxy, and use Ghostzilla. Browse sites from your home PC remotely, and IT would see very little with the SSL. But, that’s way too much effort.
Ghostzilla just blends in generic blogs to Outlook/Word/Etc. to make nosy co-workers mind their own damn business. It’s a rocking program. ;-X

Damnit. Where did my reply go?
Ghostzilla isn’t a proxy. Any IT or non-idiot will know the sites you visit. It’s only used to make the sites appear in Word, Outlook, etc. If you really want privacy, get a SSL proxy to your home PC. Visit sites while at work ON your home pc, and use Ghostzilla as a curtain over that.
