Slacker tip #45 - Volunteer to be the department party planner

Posted by: the complete slacker on Monday, June 11th, 2007

If you work in an office, then chances are pretty good that you have a lot of celebrations as your co-workers look for any excuse to have a party. If you don’t have this in your office, or even if you do, volunteer to be the office party planner.

By being the office party planner, you will get to miss some work without having to clock out. For instance, say it is Betty Joe Bob’s birthday, that means you need a cake, so you get to leave during work to head on over to the Piggly Wiggly bakery and get said cake. Sure, this will cost you if your office won’t reimburse, but at least you get out of work. Or, you could save the receipts for end of year taxes and write them off as work expenses you were not reimbursed for. Technically, that is the truth.

Then, before the party time, you get to leave your desk to do the setting up for the party. Everyone gets cake, you get away with not working, and it’s really a win-win for everyone. And, you look like the outgoing member of the staff, which keeps them off your back the rest of the time since they like you.

Mmm. That’d mean a lot of work for me.

We’ve lost almost HALF of our STAFF in the past year or two.

Add on top of that birthdays and bastard baby showers and hooker weddings…. hot damn.
