Slacker tip #41 - Get a job with flex time

When I go into a job interview and the interviewer tells that they have flex time, I want to hump their legs right there in the middle of the interview. Flex time is a godsend for us slackers. I have been fortunate enough for my last 3 jobs to have had flextime scheduling and I milked it for everything it was worth.

Here is how you make flex time work for you. Find out what time the boss and everyone else arrives. Then work your schedule so that you spend the least amount of time with other people, specifically you boss and any nosy co-workers. This way, you can sit at your desk and do nothing without anyone knowing. An even better idea is to make yourself the person that stays the latest. This way, no one knows when you leave, so you can put whatever you want on your timesheet!

At my job, my boss arrives around 8 am and leaves around 4:30 pm on most days. Sometimes I try to get to work a few minutes before 8 am. If I succeed in arrving before she does, then my timesheet says that I arrived at 7:30am. Also, I usually try to stay at least until she leaves. Today, she left at 4:20 pm, and no one sits near me, so I left at 4:30 pm (when I saw her car leave the lot) and my time sheet will say 6:30 pm. Why 6:30? Because I want overtime and in the event that I get caught I can just say I must have clicked on the wrong time as it was actually 4:30 - and this lie will work because it has everytime I’ve had to use it. Trust me.

I use these little tricks to get overtime on my check every week. And I usually am not even at the office 40 hours a week due to my leaving early when the boss does.

Now, a computer time clock or punch time clock can put a real damoer on this plan. But it can be overcome. At a recent job, I lived 3 miles from work. So, I’d get up, have some coffee, drive to work and clock in, sit my coat on my chair and my bag at my desk, drive back home, eat breakfast, shower and then show up at work. No one EVER caught on and I worked there a full year and left on my own without being fired. At this same place, I would come home at night, eat dinner, etc and then drive back to clock out a few hours later. Saturdays, I’d clock in, go shopping, come back and clock out. I got SO much overtime at this place, and like I said, they never caught on.

As long as you have flex time, there is an easy way to get paid for doing nothing.
