Slacker tip #33 - Use your co-workers schedules to your advantage

One of the keys to being the best slacker you can be, and thus working as little as possible in order to get a full day’s pay, is to take advantage of your co-workers schedules.

For instance, my boss is out this entire week, which means that I have no babysitter. Well, other than the nosy girl that sits beside me who at any given moment is more concerned about what I am doing than anything else. I think if her foot was on fire she wouldn’t even notice because she’d be too busy trying to see what I was looking at online. But anywho, she is all I have to worry about this week. Luckily for me, I have her schedule down. I know that she takes a 20 minute break around 11:30, takes a 40 minute lunch around 1:10 and another 20 minute break at 4:30. So, what I am doing with all of this information this week? Well, for starters I took an almost 3 hour lunch break today. My timesheet will only reflect one hour. If you are wondering if I am worried about getting caught because I was gone for 3 hours, the answer is no. First, my time sheet only allows for a max if 1 hour for lunch, so technically, I cannot put 3 hours on it. (it’s a web-based timesheet) Second, I left when the girl beside me was on break. She wasn’t at her desk when I got back. Third, the worst that can happen is they fire me. Then I get unemployment. That is not bad thing.

The lesson here? Know your co-workers schedules. Use them to your advantage. If they all take lunch at 11:30 or noon, take yours a 1:00, even if you are starving. Why? Because you will have the time that they are at lunch as free time. In essence, you’ll get double the lunch time. The same thing goes for morning and afternoon breaks.
