Slacker tip #32 - Unemployment
Positively the most rewarding way of getting paid to do nothing is getting unemployment pay.
Sadly, you can’t claim unemployment forever, and if you get a job but continue to claim it you run the risk of gettnig caught having to pay it all back with interest and fees.
Getting unemployment is a little tricky because it can get denied. Basically, you have to get yourself fired without the official reason for your firing being you or something you did. If you get something in writing as to the reason of your firing, by all means hold onto it in case the employer tries to change the reasoning when they see the unemployment claim come across their desk.
The easiest type of job to get dismissed from and be able to reap the rewards of unemployment is a temp job, specifically a temp-to-hire one. Typically, your contact at the temp agency will tell you that the company changed their mind about the position or that there were budget cuts, etc. This is your goldmine. You know the real reason, and so does the temp agency. So they are not going to want to try to place you anywhere else.
Congrats, you’re collecting unemployment now.
