Slacker tip #31 - Join the office gossip clique
If you work in an office, then you know how easy it is to get away with doing nothing if you are part of the office gossip clique. Every office has one. They can usually be found talking about American Idol or Survivor. And as soon as someone from the group is out sick or walks away, then they become the hot topic of conversation.
As someone that avoids these cliques like the plague, I can tell you first hand they are the key to getting out of working without getting in trouble. In fact, in my office my boss is the ring leader of the gossip clique. She actually emails me work to do and pulls my co-worker out of her cubicle to come join in on the gossip fun. So, if you can handle hanging around with this crowd - it’s a good way to get paid to do nothing. Or you can be like me and use the time to do other things since both the boss and the nosy co-worker of the office are occupied.
