Slacker tip #29 - get paid while you’re at home

Do you have a badge that you can swipe to gain access to your office at any time? Live close to work? Then you can get paid while you’re not even in the office!

Here’s how I did it. At my last job, I lived only 5 minutes from the office. And I had a badge that allowed me access to the building at any time. My start time was officially 7:30 am, however, I was in an accounting position, which meant a lot of required overtime, which meant that no one blinked an eye if your timesheet said 5:30 am at month end. So, I would get up for work, drive to work, clock-in, put my jacket on my chair, put my bag beside my chair, put my extra set of keys on my desk, a cup of coffee and then drive back home. Two hours later I would show up at work for real.

If you try this, here are some tips. Don’t park where you usually park when you do this because the people you work with are nosy and already know where you usually park. So you don’t want them saying ‘why did you park in the back of the lot?’ instead you can say ‘oh, i parked in the other lot’ when they tell you they didnt see your car. Use the stairs that come out by your breakroom. That way, when you see people on your way to your desk, it will look like you’ve been in the kitchen. And remember, there is already a cup of coffee on your desk, so don’t be walking around with another one. Go to your desk, get the cup, go pour it out and then get a fresh cup.

I did this regularly and never once got caught. Instead I raked in lots of OT pay for doing nothing. Life is sweet.
