Being sick excuses #6 - the stomach virus

Posted by: the complete slacker on Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

This is probably the most commonly used excuse around. Why? Because no one asks for a doctor’s note for a stomach virus because no one goes to the doctor when they actually have one. The symptoms can include just about anything, and just by calling and saying you need to stay close to the bathroom you won’t have to worry about anymore questions.

Excuse - stomach virus
Symptoms - Just about anything really. Upset stomach, headache, and vomiting are most common.
Limitations - This thing is used by almost everyone, so don’t over use it yourself. It’s best used if someone else calls out with the same thing the day or two before.
Time- This sort of thing usually runs its course in 24-48 hours tops.
Dialogue - People get uncomfortable if you tell them you have the runs. So tell them that. They sure won’t ask anymore questions.
Frequency - You can easily get away with this a few times a season. It’s best if you can piggyback with other people calling out with the same thing.
