Not working at work - 2 surveys
Office Team, one of those blasted temp agencies, recently conducted 2 surveys on the ‘problem’ of people not working while they are at work. The findings? That employees spend an average of 36 minutes each day doing personal tasks on company time. Managers surveyes estimated that their workers spend about 43 minutes a day on non-work related activities. I think they’re both wrong. At lunch time alone I take an extra 30 minutes.
Apparently, companies are relieved by these findings as a 2005 survey by AOL and Salary.com reported that the average worker wastes 2 hours a day, which apparently adds up to $759 billion in monies paid for unworked hours. boo hoo. I think these guys were closer to the reality.
The sucky part is that, according to Salary.com, companies expect employees to waste about an hour a day and take that into consideration when they plan salaries for various positions. Nevermind the fact that more money might sway someone into doing what they are supposed to be doing. It would at least make them think twice.
