Got Websense?
If you’re an unlucky schmuck like me, your company has a nifty little demon by the name of WebSense that blocks certain websites. Usually that means no email sites, no sites where there is streaming music, no ebay, no online games, etc. So, what’s a slacker to do?
Find other mind-numbing activities to do on the internet, of course!
And now, The Complete Slacker Top 10 list of sites to peruse on the company’s dime.
1. Gawker - this site has yet to be blocked by any job that I’ve had in the past 5 or so years. Definitely an entertaining read and a swell way to pass the afternoon by when you get back from lunch. You know, the lunch you only clocked out 30 minutes for but actually took an hour and 15 minutes.
2. Fark - also a surprising site that has not been blocked by any of my jobs.
3. Fan Fiction.net – loads of choices here if you want to read something to occupy your time.
4. IMDB - They have entertainment news and message boards, not to mention plenty of pictures of hotties.
5. Datalounge - They have a fierce gossip message forum!
6. SlickDeals - A schweet site that lets you know if there are any great deals going on. Cause shopping online is always an easy way to kill time. It also features a highly active forum.
7. Defamer - it’s like Gawker, only L.A. style.
8. The Onion – does it really need an explanation?
9. Cafe Press – design some shirts, open up a free store and make money on your own while your day job is paying you “to work” ha!
10. Wikipedia - you can look up almost anything there. Or even add your own notes to something!
And in the unlucky event that you do not have internet access at all, well, there’s always Paint or PowerPoint! Make a PowerPoint slide show about what a douche bag your boss is! Use Paint to make nifty little comics that you can put into the PowerPoint slide show. Then send the slide show to us at completeslacker (at) gmail (dot) com and we will post it up for everyone to see what some lame company really paid you to do for 8 hours!
