Invent a kid project update #2
It’s official. I have a sick kid. And it’s everything I thought it would be.
Here’s what I did: I set the alarm on my cellphone to go off with my ringtone at 11:40. When the phone started ringing. I got up from my desk and answered it as I was walking away from the cubicles. I walked to the lobby where I had a pretend conversation. Then I frantically rushed back to my bosses desk and told her I had just gotten a call that my son was sick and that I needed to leave to pick him up as he was throwing up. There was a collective “awww” from my boss and her boss, who just happened to be in the cubicle. Then my bosses boss says to me, “You go get him and we can take care of shutting down your computer for you.” To which I reply, “Wow, thanks I really appreciate it.” And my boss chimes in with “It’s no problem, we understand that kids get sick. Now go take care of him.” As I turned to leave both wished him well and hoped that he got better soon.
Now, I will have to put a picture of my nephew into my wallet, as I suspect when I return to work on Monday that they will ask about my son and want to see pictures of him. Updates on this to follow next week.
Also up for next week, what to do when you call in to work and your job won’t let you come back without a doctor’s note.
