Another crappy temp job

If there is only one thing in the whole entire world that I know with certainty, it is this - work blows.

It’s not that I’m lazy per se, but I take great enjoyment out of getting paid to play on the internet and listen to my mp3 player. If I got paid a decent wage and treated wonderfully, then I suspect I’d be a bit more productive. But as luck would have it, I’m starting a new job tomorrow. I got said job through a temp agency after moving to a new state and being unemployed a little over a month.

Temp agencies - we have a love/hate relationship.

I hate temp agencies because they are the personification of all things vile. They don’t pay you for holidays, they offer crappy “benefits” if they offer any at all, they don’t give you any sick days or vacation time and they will call you at 5:30pm on Friday to tell you not to report back to your assigned job on Monday - giving you no time to look for another job elsewhere! I hate them! Yet, I love them. They provide the easiest means to get paid, and paid well, to do absolutely nothing. And most of the recruiters at temp agencies are so money hungry that they will take you off of one assignment when the client complains and immediately put you on a new one. It’s brilliant.

I’ve become somewhat of a professional slacker. My most recent job was through a temp agency. I spent 5.5 glorious months at the Nissan North American Headquarters in the accounting department making $15 per hour. I frequently had overtime on my paychecks there. I would say that I actually worked about 5 hours per month total. Yes, that’s right, I got overtime some weeks because I stayed late checking my email or reading some blogs.

So, tomorrow I am set to begin yet another temp job making $15 per hour. In my interview I was told that there would be plenty of overtime allowed as well. Here’s hoping I’ll have internet access there, otherwise I won’t last too long!

I’m a slacker and with my ramblings you, too, can become a super duper slacker like me.
